Freedom Mortgage Wraps Up Impressive 2022

News

Despite rising interest rates, nationwide mortgage lender saw steady loan production and expanded its philanthropic efforts

Boca Raton, FL - February 23, 2023 - Despite a sharp rise in interest rates, Freedom Mortgage, one of the largest full-service independent mortgage companies and a top Veterans Administration (VA) and Federal Housing Administration (FHA) lender in the U.S., had one of its best years in 2022, helping nearly 120,000 borrowers secure financing for their most important asset—their homes.

In addition to providing low down payment mortgages to first-time homebuyers and homeowners nationwide, including thousands of U.S. veterans, Freedom Mortgage was proud to service the mortgages of nearly 2 million homeowners representing over $452 billion in loans. The company also donated more than $600,000 last year through its philanthropic arm, Team Freedom Cares, and saw its highest employee volunteer engagement with nearly 2,000 hours spent bettering local communities.

"The mortgage industry was severely impacted by the continuous rise in interest rates last year yet, we were able to grow our servicing portfolio and experience another banner year giving back to local communities across the country," said Stanley C. Middleman, Freedom Mortgage president and CEO. "I'm proud of how our dedicated employees performed, not just when it came to helping our customers finance their dreams, but also for the tremendous impact they've made in their local communities."

Middleman commended Freedom Mortgage employees for their generosity and dedication to supporting multiple charitable organizations during 2022, including programs for veterans, service members, and their families. Through Team Freedom Cares, the company operates the following annual campaigns:

  • Rucksacks to Backpacks inspires employees to help the children of military families return to school with new backpacks and necessary supplies. In celebration of the 10th year of the program in 2022, employees raised $90,000 for local USO Centers to help over 4,000 military children.
  • Project Gratitude encourages Freedom Mortgage employees to submit handwritten and video messages of thanks for active-duty service members. Last year, 220 employee recorded messages of thanks were shared with active-duty service members through USO Centers across the globe.
  • Feeding America® "Fight Hunger" fundraiser empowers employees to join the fight against food insecurity in their local communities. Last year, Team Freedom Cares expanded the campaign to include a $20,000 donation to American Red Cross humanitarian relief efforts for Ukraine. Over 1,400 employees donated funds and Middleman made a matching donation that brought the total amount raised to over $102,500.
  • Holiday Toy Drive provides an opportunity for Freedom Mortgage employees to make monetary or physical toy donations for underserved youth to brighten the spirits of families during the holiday season. Last month, employees and Middleman raised $61,000 in support of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), the Salvation Army, and Toys for Tots.

Team Freedom Cares also provides financial support to a number of additional charitable programs, including events recognizing Military Appreciation Month, Memorial Day, and a Freedom Mortgage coined "Veterans Month" in November. Additionally, employees find opportunities to support each other. In one instance, after learning two colleagues had children living with type 1 diabetes, the company's call center department came together and raised $7,815 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

"Most of us are fortunate enough to go to sleep at night without being hungry or worrying about how we are going to pay for housing or healthcare, but so many Americans are not," Middleman said. "By empowering our employees to act locally, we've been able to make a tremendous difference across the country in the lives of our most vulnerable, particularly veterans and children."

Earlier this month, Freedom Mortgage was honored with the Real Leaders Impact Award, which recognizes companies around the world for being as aware of their impact on employees, society, and the planet as they are on their bottom line.
